The Cockatoos got their season off to a great start in damp and cool autumn conditions in Antony against the Antony Blues. After conceding the first goal of the match after a free kick paid to Blues’ full forward Robert STEWART, the Cockatoos went on to kick the next 8 goals to stamp their authority on the game. With 39 year old Jean ROSADO pulling back on the boots to help the Toos out in a ruck shortage and Weslley DA SILVA playing his first game of Australian football after only 3 training sessions the midfielders did well to adapt to the situation and begin to dominate around the stoppages with Callum D’SOUZA seemingly bringing his own footy as he often seems to do. Steven TROLLOPE was playing a sacrificial role as a defensive forward on the dangerous former Paris Cockerel Steven RYAN leaving the other forwards to shoulder more of the offensive responsibility, in spite of this TROLLOPE ended up kicking 4 goals of the game after some pin point kicking out of the back line from Brad GEDDES to try keep RYAN honest.
The lead continued to steadily stretch as the game wore on with Antony continuing to be right in the contest and not letting the Cockatoos get away from them however the Cockatoos were not to be denied and ran out 92 point winners as the rain began to fall on the final siren.
A solid start for a team that has played one match together in 18 months, fingers crossed that this season will be able to stretch into multiple rounds.
