WINDY ALFORTVILLE HOSTS A PARIS DERBY
Match Report by Karl ROBSON
The Cocks descended on the Alfortville rugby club in the east of Paris for the Paris Derby. A big thank you to Alfortville rugby club for hosting us and to Brice BOURNAZEL and Margaux SEMENE for organising the partnership.
The players were greeted by windy conditions upon arriving at the venue which would provide challenging throughout the game. The Cockatoos had a number of debutants for the game in Asher WOODWARD, Conor BARTLEY for some much needed height and Chems-Eddine BOUKARI which compensated somewhat for the missing midfield duo of Steven TROLLOPE and Clement BOUCHET. The Cockerels had a number of players out injured but still had the key trio of Steven RYAN, Ben SIMPSON and Michael COWAN out on the field with Lewis BERTENSHAW also making his debut for the club.
The wind played havoc on the skills and forced a number of rushed high kicks from the toos that RYAN gleefully gobbled up across the back line whilst the midfield battle was hard fought as the ‘toos midfield including tried to combat the talented COWAN and RYAN without playing coach TROLLOPE and captain BOUCHET. Gradually the Cockerels built up a lead that the toos weren’t able to bring back and the Cockerels eventually ran out winners for the 4th consecutive derby.
BERTENSHAW’s long range goal in his first match for the club was a definite highlight for the Cockerels and hopefully a sign of more goals to come as he finished like a true pro from distance. Plenty of post match fun was also had the Alfortville clubrooms.
