Another great day of footy greeted the Toos after a wet and cold week. Snow has forecast but instead we had sunshine. A Cergy team undefeated, having already beaten the Paris Cockerels, arrived full of confidence but not having played since the Christmas break. The Toos however were coming off two difficult defeats, one fresh in the minds from 2 weeks earlier.

Captain ‘Bobby’ Bouchet won the toss and kicked with the breeze for the opening stanza. A fired up Toos took full advantage by winning the ball out of the middle and hitting up ‘Sick’ at full forward. First goal on the board and good early signs for a well prepared Toos unit. The midfield was firing and enjoying having ‘Dags’ back in the mix but a competitive Cergy defence was slowing the scoring.

Q1 4-5-29 v 0-2-2

Toos were prepared for a tough second quarter into the breeze against a quality midfield which had proved themselves to be a strong force in French footy. Still reeling from their previous loss, the Toos were hard at the ball and working together to keep the ball in our attack. ‘Sick’ was beginning to show some frustrations from a close checking defence but still creating scoring opportunities on almost each entry. The backline was holding strong and repelling with class as Karl, Gino, Glinec and Tristo were shutting down their opponents and linking up to send the ball back into attack. An impressive first half team performance had Cergy shell shocked and an injury to Cergy’s Kevin hurt their chances further.

Half time 8-13-61 v 1-3-9

The third quarter continued with the Toos competing for the ball and denying Cergy time and space to get their running game going. Only the mounting number of behinds was a concern as some fantastic team work was not being rewarded in full. Another fantastic quarter by the defence held Cergy scoreless but credit must also go to the midfield rotation winning the ball in the contest.

Q3 11-17-83 v 1-3-9

Not to be satisfied with a three quarter effort, the Toos midfield continued their dominance with their attack on the ball and strength in numbers (boasting 3 national players as well as the leather poisoned Stevotoo). The return of Stanley and Dags added potency and the unexpected presence of Chuchu and Dony, the latter booting a crowd pleasing goal, provided some needed fourth quarter depth.

Full time 14-22-106 v 1-4-10

A real four quarter team effort to be proud of against a quality opposition. Still some room to improve for the newest team in the competition with only two more games remaining in the championship. Thanks to all the crowd for coming down, Stevo for taking the reigns for the day and of course the volunteers for making the day happen!
